The index icon will
take you home to the main index of the course. This is the area that you
will always enter the course modules through. Here you can find or choose
a particular module or resource.

This is a navigation icon
that will take you to the previous module visited in the course.

The next icon will

The resources icon
usually appears at the top of each module. It will take you to the resources
specific to the module you are working in. Resources could include articles,
software, plugins or links to other sites. Occasionally it will appear
next to a body of text in the lesson to indicate a specific resource.

The glossary icon is
usually located at the top of each module and will open a glossary for
you in a small window. When a word is highlighted
in a body of text, this indicates that if you click on it, the glossary
will open and supply you with a definition for that word. |

When present, the self-test icon
will open a multiple choice test for you relating to the module you are
working in. The self-test is not scored or recorded, and will give you
instant feedback immediately on each question so that you may test your
knowledge on the module. |

This icon opens the communications
area of the course, and is usually located at the top of each module
page. Here you will find a bulletin board where you can communicate with
other people (over time) in a threaded discussion area. There is also an
area for real-time discussions or chat if you arange to speak to others
at a specific time. |

The calendar icon will
open up a calendar indicating upcoming events. Since this course is self-paced,
there probably won't be very many scheduled events. |

The audio icon indicates
that there is a (compressed) audio file for you to listen to. It may appear
at the top of the module or anywhere in the body or content. Usually, these
files will be in Quicktime or HotMedia format. If you are unsure about
these formats, they will be explained further when you are required to
access them. |

The video icon indicates
that there is a (compressed) video for you to view. It may appear at the
top of the module or anywhere in the body or content. Usually, you will
have the option of viewing these files in either Quicktime (ISDN or cable)
or REAL (streaming for modems) formats. If you are unsure about these formats,
they will be explained further when you are required to access them. |

The multimedia icon indicates
that there is a multimedia activity for you to experience. These could
be in Shockwave, Flash or HotMedia formats. If you are unsure about these
formats, they will be explained further when you are required to access
